And Then Comes Baby

Updated: Nov 20, 2018

We heard the comedian, Jim Gaffigan, say, "If you want to know what it's like to have 5 kids, imagine you are drowning, and... someone hands you a baby." By the time they were all born, our five children were 10, 6, 3, 2, and newborn. We were frequently asked, you do know how this happens, right? But from day one of our parenting journey, we were determined to make our marriage a priority, even though we were outnumbered by little ones. This meant being intentional about weekly dates, focused conversation, and priority on our friendship and intimacy. Sure, we were tired being up all night with babies, overwhelmed by the demands of toddlers, emotionally tired with teenagers, but we made time for each other - to be a couple, best friends and lovers. The greatest gift you can give your children is the security that their parents love each other.

COUCH TIME

We practiced something called "couch time" when our children were really little. When Dave came home from work after a long day, we sat on the couch for a few minutes and reconnected. Our children got used to our couch time every evening, and loved to see mommy and daddy sharing, cuddling, and laughing together.
