The Marriage Bucket List

Have you ever written down your bucket list? You know, that list of the things you want to achieve or experience in your lifetime? Many people have a personal bucket list, but what about for your marriage? What do you hope to achieve as a couple and experience as a couple? Yogi Berra, the well known Yankees coach said, "If you don't know where you are going, you will end up somewhere else." So true, isn't it? So early in our marriage, Dave and I wrote down a few things we wanted to achieve and experience as a couple - goals we wanted to accomplish in ministry, the way we wanted to raise our children, the places we wanted to visit in the world, and the legacy we wanted to pass on to the next generation. As the years go by, we have been able to see many of the things on our list come to pass. Having a bucket list for our marriage is really just having a common vision. We are not just beating the air, going nowhere fast, we have dreams and goals together. For example, years ago, Dave and I wrote down a goal to go to England for our anniversary. It seemed so far off. We dreamed, we planned, we saved and finally we were able to visit London and the English Countryside. It was so exciting to be able to check it off our bucket list. The same is true for our children, our ministry and what we wanted to pass to our children. We worked together, dreamed together, and accomplished our goals together, and it made us even closer as a couple. As we come to the end of another year, take some time to write down your Marriage "bucket list" as a couple.

TRUTH TO PONDER: So I run with purpose in every step... 1 Corinthians 9:26

DISCUSS TOGETHER: What happens if you don't know where you are going as a couple? Give an example.

Why is writing down a "bucket list" for your marriage so unifying as a couple?

TRY THIS: Write down some goals you have as a couple:

1. Travel goals (Places you want to visit in the United States and the world)

2. Career goals (ongoing education, dream jobs, etc.)

3. Family goals (family nights, what we want to impart to our children, date nights, family devotions, etc.)
